DEATH: microwave She is described as “short, round-buttocked in denim, with roundish cheeks that recalled the same dorsal softness (5)”. In the first part we don't get to know much about her. The narrators don’t focus its attention on Therese, and therefore doesn’t give us a lot of details. AGE: 16 years old
DEATH: sleeping pills In chapter 2 she appears more frequently because Peter Sissen has found her secret cache of cosmetic tied up in a sock under the sink. This detail helps the reader to understand how strict the Lisbon parents were. She is the last of the five sisters to die. AGE: 15 years old
DEATH: suicide hanging herself with a rope She is described to have “sallow complexion and sharp nose of a nun”(23). Except from this little detail, the narrators don't give us much information about the girl. The narrators are focusing their attention of Cecilia, who is the protagonist in this chapter. AGE: 14 years old
DEATH: carbon dioxide poisoning Lux is the prettiest of the Lisbon sisters, she radiates "health and mischief". The narrators emphasize a lot this aspect of the girl and also tell us that she is already a WOMAN. “In the trash can was one Tampax, spotted, still fresh from the insides of one of the Lisbon girls.” (8) After Cecilia has tried to commit suicide, Lux spends a lot of time with her and tries to comfort her. AGE: 13 years old
DEATH: suicide by falling on a fence she is the first one to die. Cecilia is always described as a shy girl wearing a wedding dress, one of the weirdest of the sisters. The narrators describe Cecilia's suicide with very vivid details “ He was trying to lift her off the spike that had punctured her left breast, traveled through her inexplicable heart, separated two vertebrae without shattering either, and come out her back, ripping the dress and finding the air again.” (28). This passage for example, is horrifying, and yet it gives us a very clear idea of the scene. In her first attempt to suicide, Cecilia is found holding a card with a picture of the Virgin Mary.
